Sweden's 10th largest city, Jönköping

Rådhusparken on the west side of the city.

Winter arrived on the night of the 30th October. Temperature -2 C.

In Jönköping one can experience the deep forests of Småland, lovely city parks and the three lakes Vättern, Rocksjön and Munksjön.

With approximately 124000 inhabitants, the city received its charter in 1278. It has a strategic location in the south of Sweden. Rail and road networks provide fast access to Stockholm (330km), Gothenburg (140km) and Copenhagen in Denmark (290km).

The region has some 9800 registered companies, most of which are small and medium sized manufacturing companies. But there are also many large international groups and companies, such as IKEA, Electrolux, SAAB and VSM Group (Husqvarna).

Jönköping University, which has over 9000 students is organised as a foundation comprising four independent schools. All centrally located on a city campus in close connection to Jönköping Science Park (more about the university to follow).

What is Swedejoey in Jönköping?

For that to be answered I need to tell my story.

I first came to Jönköping Sweden as a university exchange student in 2002.

My Swedish university. Jönköping International Business School.

In March 2006 I returned to live in Jönköping as a permanent resident and have been living here ever since.

Oh yeah, where do I come from well I was born in New Zealand, moved to Gold Coast Australia in 1989 ( I was 38).

Why a blog about Jönköping?

Why not? This is an interesting place. Here I will post comments, photos and videos on life, events and other thoughts about Jönköping. If necessary these may include the wider scope of happenings in Sweden but they can be related back to Jönköping.

Also do not be surprised if there are some general comments on world events, environment, or any other subjects that influence me.

This is because this blog is about the whole experience of a person living in Jönköping.
Please be patient, this blog is under development so it will take time to get up to speed.

Upcoming blog: A little about the 10th largest city in Sweden. Jönköping.
